“Prepare to fight,” Jade said under her breath. “We have been found out.”
“I don’t see the King,” said Lumira. “Or any other Sloan.”
Jade slid quietly down the pile of coins and Sang back:
“I’ll try and locate them, you distract the big guy.”
Lumira winced and looked from Jade to Morn, at whom she started gesturing for them to come over.
Morn jumped over the pile of coins and let out a fierce battle cry. From between the coins, small bugs crawled out and swarmed. Jade had no idea how she was going to find anyone while the floor was trembling the way it did. She sighed, she had to do it the normal people way. Which was tedious, her eyes weren’t what they had once been. She started circling around the fight towards the chrysalis. She glanced at Morn, who had been joined by Iratus in close combat. Acantha and Lumira stood from a distance, it was hard for them to get a hit in with the orcs in the way.
Jade slipped. She looked down to find that she had stepped on a small golden bug. They blended in perfectly with the shimmering coins. Jade considered that someone must be controlling them. She swiftly continued walking around the fight, hiding behind piles of coins. Then she saw it. A figure clad in white. It wore the same robes as the Suns prophet had back when Acantha and she had visited one of the villages. She hoped that this time they wouldn’t need a meteor storm to save them.
The white-robe was looking away from her, and was mumbling. As quietly as she could, Jade drew closer. Then, a scream. Lumira. Jade peered over the coins. There was a hole in the floor. The coins were falling into it. Lumira stood on the edge of it. Acantha grabbed the wizard with her vines, she was slipping on the floor. Small bugs were pushing the both of them towards the sinkhole. Jade stepped back as coins started chinking on the floor in front of her. She had accidentally pushed her shoulder into the wall of coins.
The white clad insect turned towards Jade and picked up one of the small golden insects. Jade lifted her blade and dashed towards the white-robe. The insect opened their hands and threw the bug at Jade. The bug grew larger and Jade braced herself as she collided with the golden scaled warrior mid-dash. She yelped involuntarily as the insect grabbed her left arm with two strong mandibles.
“Are you okay?!” she heard Acantha shout at her. Jade punched the insect in it’s eye and pulled her arm back as the grip around her arm loosened. She caught her breath and yelled:
“I found a white one!”
The golden warrior made a clicking noise and tried to grab Jade again, this time with its arms.
“Coming!” Acantha shouted.
A clattering of coins announced that, indeed, she was. Jade tried to stab the golden creature, but her blade caught in its armor and she struggled to pull it out as the golden warrior tried to pull her closer. She knew for certain that he wanted to snap her neck off. She also knew for certain that he would die trying. Unfortunately, he clearly had the advantage when it came to the amount of appendages. Where she only had two arms, he had four. She had to kill it quickly, so she could get back to the white-robe.
She slipped. Cursed. Managed to let herself fall and roll away from the golden bug. She cursed again as she stood up. This room was too bright for her to hide in the shadows, which was her strong-suit. She much preferred to-
Two vines wrapped around the golden warrior from behind. Jade dashed. Her left arm she thrust sideways into the mandibles, pushing them out of the way as she drove her blade into the creatures neck. It convulsed before going limp. Acantha unwrapped her vines and the warrior fell in an awkward heap on the floor. Jade acknowledged her friend with a nod and then turned towards the white-robe.
“It’s an avatar of the Sun,” said Acantha. “I mean, it split off. This is our target.”
The white robe shook its head and for a moment looked at the golden warrior that lay dead on the floor.
It made a rasping sound before it stepped forward and spewed bright green liquid towards them.
Acantha and Jade both stepped out of the way. A sharp, sour smell hit their nostrils.
“Ready the poison,” said Jade.
“But how?” said Acantha, she held the vial of pain drops in her hand. She had no way of administering them.
“Figure it out, I’ll keep it busy.”
Acantha stepped back and closed her eyes. Jade sighed. The white-robe turned to Acantha and made a rasping sound.
“Oh no you don’t,” said Jade and she ran to the creature, punching it in the face. The green liquid barely missed Acantha. The smell of the creatures spit was turning her stomach and Jade resisted the urge to breathe through her mouth. It wouldn’t make it any better. The creature stood still for a moment, seemingly catching its breath. Jade sprinted towards it and grabbed the white-robe’s arms. She managed to hold on to one arm as the creature struggled to get free. Then it made another rasping sound. Jade felt a pain raise up her leg. She screamed and stepped back, attempting to pull the white-robe with her, but despite herself, she felt her grip loosen. The pain. She had stepped into the pool of green oozing liquid.
Jade jumped out of the way just as the white-robe spewed once more. Jade stood up, gritting her teeth. She would have to manage around the green ooze. The liquid was forming a small stream around the white-robe and taking with it melting coins.
